Meredith Baxter, star of 1980s sitcom Family Ties, wed her longtime partner on Sunday afternoon. Baxter has previously been married three times, but this is her first marriage to a woman, contractor Nancy Locke.
Baxter came out in 2009 when she said, “I feel like I’m being honest for the first time,” and has been in a relationship with Locke for seven years. The ceremony was held in Los Angeles, and in attendance were Meredith’s five children, two from her first marriage to Robert Lewis Bush and three from her second marriage to David Birney. Alas, either menopause eventually set in or Michael Blodgett’s swimmers weren’t up to snuff.
“Now I understand why marriage caught on,” Baxter told People.
The couple reportedly took dance lessons in the weeks leading to the ceremony and a close friend sang and played guitar. They read their handwritten vows to each other in front of a modest group of family and friends. Nancy’s band performed before the couple’s first dance. No word on whether or not Michael J. Fox was there doing the jitterbug.
Mazel tov, Meredith and Nancy!
