Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema Spews More Hate

Just say “no” to bigotry.

Michigan Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema claims to know the real reason gays want to get married, and it’s not because they want to spend their lives with the person they love or start families. According to Agema, it’s because they want free healthcare to treat AIDS, as originally reported by Mary Elizabeth Williams in Salon.

“They want free medical because they’re dying between 30 and 44 years old. To me, it’s a moral issue. It’s a Biblical issue. Traditional marriage is where it should be and it’s in our platform. Those in our party who oppose traditional marriage are wrong,” said Agema at a Berrien County Republican Party holiday event. Naturally, he’s implying it’s not just a moral issue, it’s a financial issue. Agema claims he saw employees using their medical benefits to get coverage for people with AIDS when he was working for American Airlines.

The former state congressman has an entire section of his website describing the “negative effects of homosexuality.” This section includes “facts”, such as “Part of the homosexual agenda is to get the public to affirm their filthy lifestyle” and “homosexuals prey on children.” He also suggests the rise of STDs is due to homosexuality, despite the fact all of the most common STDs in the United States affect both men and women.

Equality Michigan has called for Agema to step down, saying that he is “a venomous committee member whose hate speech and fear tactics have become an embarrassment to not only [the Republican] party, but to everyone in Michigan.”

Politicians have always twisted facts to support their agendas, but Agema has been taking it to an unacceptable level. But hey, condemning a minority group for their beliefs and blaming them for the problems with the economy has always worked out in the past, right? After all, the Holocaust eventually ended.
