Steamy 2014 Orthodox Calendar Creatively Protests Russian Church’s Gay Marriage Stance (NSFW)

by YOUR HEAD FAG IN CHARGE

This sexy Orthodox Calendar features naughty pictures of gay men with religious imagery and was released by a group of Eastern Orthodox Christians  in protest of Russia’s anti-gay laws. An anonymous group of six people from countries that were once part of the Soviet Union are responsible for the calendar made up of illustrations by Hungarian artist Tienne

“Our wall calendars represent the very first organized global effort against homophobia in the Orthodox Church,” wrote Magdalena de Iona, a spokeswoman for Orthodox Calendar, in an email interview with Kimberly Winston of Religion News Service. “Through them, we seek to counteract the negative and outdated influences of most of the Orthodox Church leadership.”

This is third calendar put out by by Orthodox Calendar. In 2012 they releases a calendar with photographs of gay men and was releasked to promote tolerance and unity. Last year’s calendar featured gay couples in support of gay marriage.

The theme for this year’s calendar was in response to Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill’s comment last July that gay marriage would lead to the apocalypse. “I told myself [the] 2014 edition will not leave people indifferent, and that was the most important thing to us,” said de Iona. “Nothing is worse than indifference. It’s indifference that will let [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin and Patriarch Kirill actively promote physical and legislative attacks on the LGBT community in Russia.”

According to de Iona, there will be a second 2014 calendar with full-color photographs of gay Orthodox men posing as priests with sexy tattooed naked companions to support gay marriage.

Ten percent of the profits from the “Bigger, Harder, Better!” calendar will be used to fight discrimination against gays in Russia. Seems like more should go to the cause, but it’s still a fun calendar with good intentions. Both calendars are available online and cost about $20.
