Katherine Heigl Turns to Crowd Funding to Finish Lesbian Film

by DAVE FUMAROLA

After the tremendous success Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell had with Veronica Mars (and to a lesser and more annoying extent, Zach Braff with his pet project), Katherine Heigl is the latest celebrity to turn to crowd funding to help finance a film. The campaign began on indiegogo on Tuesday and will continue until March 28th. The filmmakers are hoping to raise $150,000 to allow them to finish post-production on the movie. The project has currently raised just over $8,000.

Jenny’s Wedding, written and directed by Mary Agnes Donaghue, tells the story of Jenny Farrell (Heigl), an openly gay woman who has decided to marry and start a family with her partner. There’s just one problem – her conservative parents don’t know she’s gay and they think her partner is her roommate. It’s a funny and heartwarming journey as the Farrells learn to adapt to the truth of their reality. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond, Grace Gummer, and Alexis Bledel.

Perks for contributions range from basics like digital downloads for smaller donations all the way up to the wedding dress Heigl actually wears in the movie for those flush enough to donate $15,000. If you want something more affordable you can get a signed copy of the screenplay for $75. If only one of the perks were a fourth season of Roswell, in which Heigl would hopefully dump her child molester husband and run off with Emilie de Ravin.

Anyone have any good lesbian Roswell fan fiction?

This project actually sounds like exactly what Katherine Heigl’s career needs. She pissed off a lot of people for being outspoken, particularly about the types of roles she was offered as a woman. While we can’t fault her for her feminist views, it’s important to never bite the hand that feeds you. Bringing unique female characters to life is a much better way to relay her views as opposed to just complaining about the state of things. Heigl will soon be returning to television in State of Affairs, NBC’s CIA drama.
