Since officially opening on April 22, 2014 the Broadway show Hedwig and the Angry Inch has been headlined by three sensational actors. Neil Patrick Harris, Andrew Rannells and presently, Michael C. Hall have walked through this rotating door of stars strutting their butts in fishnet stockings. Here is a top 10 list of actors that have the potential to step into the next set of Hedwig’s high heels.
Oh, sigh. If only he was not gone too soon perhaps we’d all have a chance to see this well committed hunky Aussie actor transform into the beloved Hansel Schmidt.
9. James Franco
This Freaks & Geeks alum may not be everyone’s cup of tea, or sing well…….or always appear to be in a foggy haze, but James somehow manages to win over audiences with his boyish smile.
Chris may be a bit inexperienced on paper, but this Golden Globe recipient has proven his worth via the trials and tribulations of Kurt Hummel.
7. Joseph Gordon-Levitt
If he can incept our dreams then maybe we need to see what else he can incept? And though his character in Don Jon may be young, dumb and full of….himself, JGL’s potential may need to be tapped into via an east German transgender singer.
6. Adam Lambert
He may be haunted by placing runner-up on American Idol, but doesn’t everyone have a skeleton in their closet? Adam Lambert = Modus Operandi = Glam Rock. Enough said.
5. Christian Bale
It is true that Batman does have some singing and dancing experience, but perhaps our favorite American psycho could draw more inspiration from his experience in Velvet Goldmine.
4. Tim Curry
Well, no, not as he is now, but take a flashback to 1975 and admit you’d like to see this “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania” put back on some stilettos.
3. Chris Pine
It may come as a surprise to some, but yes, Captain Kirk can sing! And with those chiseled looks and dreamy blue eyes this L.A. born stud lands at #3 on our Hedwig list.
2. Jared Leto
Coming off his success of Dallas Buyers Club, it would only be natural to want to see lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars take over the Broadway stage in drag.
1. Jonathan Groff
Stop “Looking”! Seriously, no need to look any further, as Jonathan Groff lands at #1 on our Hedwig list. Though he may be more known for his role on the hit TV series Glee, Jonathan has enough charisma and experience to make us want to see him belt out The Origins of Love in a direct beam Broadway spotlight.
Love it! So glad to see Jared Leto and Jonathan Groff on here!
